Belfast Port business reuses, recycles and saves on retrofit

With thousands of aging R22 systems now reaching the end of their working life, a replacement installation in Belfast's city docks has highlighted the advantages of R22 Replace technology from Mitsubishi Electric.

HEYN Handling Solutions, based in Belfast's harbour area, realised that its air conditioning system - installed in 1992, was nearing the end of its useful operating life. The company thought that they were facing the prospect of major upheaval to their busy offices and called in Northern Ireland based contractor Air Cool Engineering (NI) Ltd, to advise on the best way forward.

"HEYN Handling had been very happy with the performance of its existing Mitsubishi Electric system, but was worried about the impact on its business of removing and replacing the old air conditioning," explained Martin Mullan, from Air Cool Engineering (NI) Ltd.

"We pointed out that with advances in modern systems, we could not only use a lot of the existing infrastructure to save on time and disruption, but they would also then benefit from increased performance and energy-saving and cost-effective cooling and heating in their offices."

The R22 Replace Series can often utilise and 'recycle' existing R22 pipework, electrics, drains and control wiring, leading to significant savings on both install costs and the timeframe required to complete the project.

"With minimal disruption to the operation of a busy office, we were delighted to complete the replacement install over a two week period," added Mullan.
