The Association of Loading and Elevating Equipment Manufacturers (ALEM) has appointed Andy Georgiou as its new President.
Established in 1973, ALEM represents the interests of UK manufacturers and suppliers of loading bay equipment including dock levellers, scissor lifts, tail lifts and dock shelters. Having worked in the loading bay industry for almost 25 years, Andy is widely experienced and has headed up Stertil Stokvis's loading bay division since 2007.
One of the Association's main aims is to make both industry and end users aware of the standards and regulations that must be complied with in order to meet current UK and European legislation. Andy shares the concerns of ALEM members as they face
many challenges including the threat of cheaper, unregulated, potentially unsafe and inferior machinery and equipment that is increasingly entering the UK from non-EU countries.
"At a time when the Health and Safety executive is making severe cuts in the number of inspectors working in industry," says Andy. "I feel that it's more important than ever to ensure that ALEM works tirelessly to uphold standards of manufacturing, installation and after sales service. That's not only good for our members but also essential to help safeguard the wellbeing of our customers."
Also newly appointed, to serve as ALEM's Vice President, is Marcus Clissold of Pickerings Lifts based in Stockton-on-Tees.
Welcoming the new appointments, Tim Faithfull, ALEM's Secretary, says, "For almost 40 years, the Association's members have been committed to the quality of the equipment they supply and the overall level of service they provide to their customers. Andy and Marcus are both determined to ensure that ALEM will continue to lead the fight to preserve and extend this commitment in the face of today's unprecedented tough trading conditions."
