3r leads the way for UK recycling with Two Ram baling Technology

With increasing pressure in the UK to improve recycling rates, Lancashire based 3r Environmental Technology Ltd has established itself as one of the country's leading suppliers of waste management and recycling equipment to local authorities and waste management and recycling companies.

3r is the sole UK supplier of waste management and recycling equipment produced by world market leader, the US based Marathon Equipment Company and since its inception in April 2006, 3r has introduced three of Marathon's large two-ram balers to the UK market.

3r managing director, Doug Lord, explains: "We supply 18 models in the Marathon two-ram baler range which is specifically designed for MRF's and transfer stations, waste management and recycling companies, local authorities and distribution companies.

"This equipment offers a number of unique benefits and features which are vital if the UK is to meet its recycling targets and improve its facilities in line with the rest of Europe. "

The Marathon 2R450-W-102, which weighs 52 tonnes, is the largest in the range and can process a staggering 20-50 tonnes throughput per hour (depending on the material), producing a bale weight of 750-1300kgs. It has an adjustable sheer blade, 2 x 100hp energy efficient motors, 210 tonne ram pressure, a 2600mm x 1450mm charge-box and an overall length of 13000mm . Key features include a hydraulic stamper to compress material in the charge-box, a hydraulic door which acts as a bale sizer for variable width, a bale clamp and a separation door to avoid contamination of different materials and oversize bale release.

Valient Recycling Ltd the recycling arm of Valpak, has ordered the 2R-450 where it will be used to bale PET bottles and cardboard at the UK'S largest plastic bottle recycling plant in Preston.

Doug added: "The main benefits of this machine include high product throughput due to the massive charge-box (2.9m3) and 12 second cycle. It also achieves incredible bale density with 210 tonne ram pressure combined with a full penetration ram against a solid wall which means the maximum weight for road or shipping containers is consistently achieved. The two ram baler will bale many different materials making it ideal for MRFs."

Mid-UK Recycling Ltd, based at Caythorpe in Lincolnshire has also ordered the 2R450 along with a heavy duty steel belt conveyor which has a 6000mm in-floor section to ensure high throughput levels are achieved. Mid-UK is one of the country's largest MRFs and will use the machine and conveyor for a wide range of materials including steel and aluminium cans, cardboard, paper, PET bottles, HDPE plastics, MSW, IBC bags and other non ferrous materials.

Doug concluded: "It is a very significant development for 3r Environmental Technology to receive orders for two more of these large balers.

"The first was bought by Pearson's Recycling of Norfolk in 2006 and now that Valient and Mid-UK Recycling Ltd have followed suit we are working with three of the UK's largest and best recycling companies and I believe that this definitely positions us as a leading supplier to this vital industry sector."
