AMHSA elects new Board of Directors

AMHSA, the Automated Material Handling Systems Association for the UK, has recently appointed its new board of directors at the association's annual general meeting, held last month.

With immediate effect, Mike Vernon, Consultant for Dynamic Systems Limited, assumes the role of AMHSA President, with Jackie Rutter becoming AMHSA Vice President and the first female director in the associations 23 year history.

Mike is a recognised leader in strategy formulation and has been serving as AMHSA Vice President for the last three years. He has consulted and facilitated across a large number of material handling equipment projects over the last 20 years. Mike comments AMHSA members are committed to the highest standards of customer care and after sales service, which are of crucial importance in maintaining high customer opinion of the industry.

In addition to being an active member of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport with over 10 years experience across a number of European technical and management roles, Jackie has been on the AMHSA steering committee for the last two years. Earlier this year Jackie and Mike were instrumental in raising the overall profile of the industry through the AMHSA Symposium, a networking event resulting in a showcase of the UK's latest successful material handling projects. Jackie comments: "AMHSA is the voice of the UK automated handling industry and includes the principal UK companies that supply over 80% of all automated handling equipment purchased in the UK. The association provides a forum for members to discuss matters of mutual interest and to promote ever-improving standards of quality and safety for the benefit of users of automated material handling systems. In addition, AMHSA plays a significant role in the drafting of CEN (European Committee of Standardisation) and ISO (International Organisation of Standardisation) standards that affect the sector, maintaining close contact with government organisations such as the DTI (Department of Trade and Industry) and the HSE (Health and Safety Executive)."

AMHSA has a council, four working groups (conveyor, system integrators, consultants and component services) and a technical committee. For further information, please visit www.amhsa.co.uk or contact Graham Watts, AMHSA General Secretary, on +44 (0) 116 259 8518.
