INCREASING numbers of employers are encouraging employees to reduce pollution and stay fit by cycling to work as part of the Government's 'Cycle to Work' initiative, according to workplace equipment provider Slingsby which has substantially increased its range of cycle storage facilities as a direct result of customer demand.

The 'Cycle to Work' scheme is part of the Government's Green Transport Plan which enables employees to make big savings on cycles and related safety accessories by effectively loaning them, as a tax free benefit, from their employer.

Lee Wright, Marketing Director of Slingsby, explains: "There's no doubt that the 'Cycle to Work' initiative has been a major success. Since the scheme was introduced 11 years ago we have seen orders for cycle storage equipment increasing year on year and as a result we have continually expanded our product range during this time.



"Many employers initially start out with small numbers of participants but it's surprising how quickly these schemes can grow and how many workplaces then have to make permanent provisions to securely store the large numbers of cycles that arrive at work every day. As increasing numbers of organisations strive to reduce their carbon footprints and promote well-being amongst employees this trend shows no sign of slowing down."

Finally Lee adds: "As a result we are continually being asked, by organisations across all industries, to supply cycle storage facilities that can house larger numbers of cycles so this year we have again introduced a wide range of new products in order to meet this demand. This means we can now provide secure solutions that can cater for between one and 80 cycles at a time."
