19 March 2010

The Managing Director of Basildon-based courier company Abby Couriers, Mark Giles, will be heading for Aberdeen today as one of the Essex delegates at the FSB (Federation of Small Businesses) National Conference.

Managing Director of Abby Couriers, Mark Giles, said: "Abby Couriers has been a member of the FSB for some years and has gained great benefits from that organisation through the member services it offers and the networking events it runs in Essex and Greater London.

"This week sees the FSB's three day National Conference in Aberdeen and I am honoured to have been selected as an Essex representative attending this prestigious event.

"The programme includes speeches from Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills Lord Mandelson, Minister for Small Businesses Lord Davies CBE, and Scotland's First Minister Alex Salmond MP MSP as well as a Question Time chaired by John Sergeant and a motivational speech by Kate Adie.

"While I am sure they will be interesting speeches there will also be debates on issues affecting small businesses here in Essex plus the opportunity to talk to other small business owners from across the country to share good ideas and make new contacts which could lead to future business.

"This is the first year I have attended the FSB National Conference and am looking forward to seeing what happens at this major event in the national business calendar."

With almost 200 staff the firm has more than 175 drivers on the road providing Same Day Delivery Services across the United Kingdom and Europe for key clients who include DHL, FEDEX and TNT.

Abby Couriers is a member of the National Courier Association, the Federation of Small Businesses and Essex Chambers of Commerce.

During 2009 Abby Couriers won the Business to Business category in the Essex County Business Awards; the Staff Training and Development and the Business to Business Awards in the Basildon District Business Awards and the Green Business Award in the North and West London Business Awards.
