Environmental asset engineering firm, Farrer Consulting Limited has been successful in securing culvert mapping work on behalf of the Environment Agency. A number of culverts in the North East of England are to be CCTV surveyed and mapped as part of a High Impact Refurbishment project for the Environment Agency. This project is headed by a joint venture of Morrison Construction Limited and Volker Stevin Limited, Farrer has won all CCTV surveys and mapping under the management of Volker Stevin. Survey work commenced Monday 23rd November 2009.

In a second project award 365 Environmental Services Limited, supported by Farrer Consulting has been appointed to the Environment Agency Culvert CCTV and Mapping Framework for the South East of England. The first batch of culverts has been released to 365 Environmental Services with Farrer commencing work this week. It is anticipated that circa 80 culverts, with a total approximate length of 16 km, will require surveying.

"Culverts can vary greatly in size, location and purpose" explained Farrer Consulting Managing Director David Marsh. They range from the small drainage culverts typically found on highways and roads to large diameter structures supporting large water networks. Farrer will use a range of surveying techniques to establish the location and condition of the culverts and will provide this information to the Environment Agency."



It is anticipated that this information will be used to prioritise capital spend to manage the future performance of the assets. This is something of crucial importance in order to deal with the increasing number of severe weather events that the UK is experiencing.
