08 February 2010

The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport in the UK (CILT) is restructuring its organisation in order to improve its services and ensure that members receive information and support on the particular sector of the profession most relevant to their needs.

Individually, eight Professional Sectors will provide specialist activity within their discipline, whilst CILT will continue to offer opportunity and involvement across the whole of the logistics and transport profession.

CILT members are currently being asked to nominate which of the eight Professional Sectors they wish to be attached to. They may nominate as many Sectors as they wish from Supply Chain, Transport Planning, Rail, Active Travel & Travel Planning, Bus & Coach, Ports Maritime Waterways, Freight Forwarding and Aviation.

The Freight Forwarding Sector will cover all aspects of the discipline and its specialist forums will take on the diverse issues of customs and international trade, by road, rail, sea and air, as well as the overall range of related freight transport matters.

CILT Chief Executive Steve Agg says: 'The introduction of the new Professional Sectors provides an opportunity for everyone in our profession to find their home in our Institute, and each Professional Sector will provide specialist activity for a particular interest whilst continuing to offer opportunity and involvement across the profession.

'Members will receive news and event details specific to their area of interest and region. CILT hosts hundreds of events, both regionally and nationally, ranging from un-missable lectures by key industry players, to conferences, functions and the prestigious awards ceremony.

'The new structure enables members to enjoy and benefit from our comprehensive transport and logistics coverage as well as offering sector specific information and knowledge to suit their individual specialist needs'

CILT has been delighted by the immediate and substantial response to the invitation to members to select their preferred sectors.
